Confirmed Fatalities

Initially, responders confirmed the deaths of two men and one woman — a 35-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman among the casualties. Tragically, a fourth woman later succumbed to her injuries after being rushed to the hospital, despite resuscitation efforts. As of now, it remains unclear if any of the victims were German nationals.

Search Efforts Underway

Authorities tirelessly searched for the missing person late into the evening, but efforts proved unfruitful. The operation involved the coast guard, a helicopter, and personnel from firefighting, emergency medical services, and local police. Eyewitness reports suggest that some individuals were able to manage their own escape from the water.

Warnings Ignored

The state broadcaster RTVE has reminded audiences that warnings about hazardous waves had been issued by the authorities of the Canary Islands just the day before. These natural pools, once regarded as a hidden gem for vacationers, can turn deadly in rough seas, as massive waves can quickly pull unsuspecting people into the open ocean, with strong currents often rendering escape impossible. Just a few weeks earlier, Tenerife experienced a similar calamity, during which three lives were lost and numerous others injured.
