Statues and personal touches

Sculptor Martin Jennings unveiled a bronze statue of the young Queen, nearly 10 feet tall and inspired by Pietro Annigoni’s 1955 portrait, facing Buckingham Palace. Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, said it captured how the Queen would like to be remembered, and Jennings confirmed he will also create a statue of Prince Philip in his naval uniform to flank her.

A family moment

The King’s pre-recorded centennial message closed with, "God bless you, darling Mama. You remain forever in our hearts and prayers." Attendees included the Duchess of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Lady Sarah Chatto; Prince William and Kate later joined for a Buckingham Palace reception and a portrait of the senior working royals.
